If the North East link is built, it should not cut great swathes through the community and our environment as the current Ministerial Assessment permits. We demand that Planning Minister Wynne listen to the Independent Inquiry and Advisory Committee’s (IAC) 5 key recommendations:
1 The TBM Tunnel be extended to near Grimshaw St
2. Borlase Reserve, Yallambie should NOT be the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) launch site.
3.The Simpson Army Barracks should be declared a NO GO ZONE
4. The need for an interchange at Lower Plenty Road be reconsidered.
5. That the excessive widening of the Eastern Freeway be reviewed.
WE ARE WORRIED ABOUT:
How many more homes will need to be ‘voluntarily acquired’ for this project
How schools, kindergartens and aged care homes in the area will be impacted by the rise in air pollution by the 135,000 vehicles using the road each day
How we will move around our suburbs with street closures, massive construction and excavation zones and frequent giant truck movements.
We need a better way to deliver transport projects that benefits the whole community. We can’t allow rushed major projects that trash our suburbs, our amenity, our families’ health and wellbeing and our much-loved unique environment
What you can do?
